Turn the Tide Program
As professional windsurfers, we want to share our passion for the water with the youth of our community. We aim to use our program to increase access to these activities in the water which have historically had several financial barriers to entry. By getting kids in the water, we are showing the importance of ocean conservation through educational projects surrounding marine debris and environmentalism and inspiring our students to bond with Cabarete’s watersports community through team activities and mindfulness. Our goal is that by introducing the kids of our community to the joys of being on the water, we are training the next generation of windsurfing instructors and ocean conservationists.
The goal of the Turn the Tide Programme is to expand access to the ocean in a safe and fun way for the local children of Cabarete. We work to empower our students to become a part of the watersports community and be inspired to protect the ocean. The lessons include mindfulness activities, swimming lessons, team-building games, bodyboarding lessons, oceanography material, and most importantly, fun! The Turn the Tide program employs part-time coaches from the local community to teach a class weekly for our youth participants. The objective of this program is to have the youth of our community more integrated with the watersports community and feel empowered as ocean stewards, athletes and community members.
This program would not be possible without our program partner’s support:
